Model VE2 Electric Balloon Wrapper

Blockwise pleating dies are designed specifically to match the customer’s balloon designs. Balloon diameter, wall thickness, inner-member size, length, and number of wings determine the die’s center cavity, wing gaps, and wing curvature. By building the intended pleat shape into the tooling, the dies provide predictable, consistent pleating behavior across the specified product range. Each die set is manufactured from stainless steel, hardened for durability, and electropolished for a smooth working surface.

The integrated track supports operation with one or two product carriers. Each carrier secures and positions the catheter for controlled alignment within the pleating and compression stations. Track geometry controls carrier movement and maintains the required processing sequence.

A large touchscreen HMI (human-machine interface) uses familiar touch controls and intuitive navigation to make operating the machine simple and efficient. Users can create and manage recipes, adjust balloon wrapping parameters, access guided calibration tools, and quickly move between machine functions. Manual mode provides responsive, direct control without requiring a recipe.

A touchscreen HMI (human-machine interface) allows the user to enter settings in “recipes” that specify a set of parameters for the balloon wrapping process. Pressure calibration and gauge checks are easy. Manual mode allows direct commands without a recipe. Engineering, maintenance, and manual functions can be password-protected.

The Model VE2 balloon wrapper builds on the proven process capabilities of the pneumatically actuated Model VC2. VC2 recipes can be transferred to and improved with the VE2, which uses electric station actuation and force or diameter feedback and control. The VE2 also provides expanded recipe control, easier calibration, improved diagnostics, and more intuitive manual operation.

Calibration and checking of diameter, force, and pressure, and temperature is very quick and easy. Specific screens for checking or calibrating walk the user through the process. The intuitive process reduces the likelihood of calibration mistakes. User-supplied reference instruments for diameter (pins) force (weights), pressure, and temperature are required.

The VE machine requires no maintenance. The pleating and compression mechanisms also require no maintenance – just keep them clean. Do not use in a dusty or dirty environment, and blow with compressed air. Clean the center opening with 99% isopropyl alcohol on a lint-free swab or cloth.

  • Model VE2T with Red Pleat™ or Twin-Cam™ Pleat Station

    Blockwise’s electrically-actuated balloon wrapping (aka folding) machine for pleating and compressing catheter balloons.

    The Model VE2T uses a larger base plate that can accommodate the larger Twin-Cam pleating and Red Crimp compression stations, for balloons larger than 14 mm diameter or 124 mm in length. The patented Twin-Cam™ mechanism ensures reliable and consistent pleating, no die-to-die wear, and uniform temperature distribution. The Red Crimp features stainless steel dies that are guided by extremely precise bearing balls, resulting in near-perfect geometrical accuracy.

    The Model VE2G, with its smaller base plate, accommodates Alpha-Pleat™ stations for balloons up to 14 mm diameter and up to 124 mm overall length. Designed especially for PTCA-sized balloon wrapping, the patented Alpha-Pleat™ station has EDM-cut stainless steel dies that are self-guided by extremely precise bearing balls, resulting in unparalleled geometric accuracy with virtually zero wear. The J-Crimp™ compression station relies on non-contacting dies with very small die-to-die gaps.
